(From Billings Gazette) Because this is something of an advice column, I would like to take an opportunity to remind all of my readers — especially the men — that Valentine’s Day is right around the corner (hello … tomorrow!). Forgetting this occasion would probably nullify any advice that I could possibly relate about staying healthy in body, mind and spirit.
Valentine’s Day, of course, is all about love. With respect to yoga, one might ask the Tina Turner question: “What’s love got to do with it?”
I will continue to share common-sense, safe, functional and empowering yoga tips to enhance health and happiness while addressing yoga myths in my upcoming articles in 2013. Check out my first article of the year!
I always welcome responses and requests. I teach classes, workshops and private lessons, so email me at elizabethklarich@gmail.com if you want to discuss or do yoga with me. Here’s hoping you have a safe and healthy start to the new year that continues throughout the rest of the year!
As a child in Kansas City, I experimented with various ways of controlling my breath and positioning my body. After taking my first yoga class as a teenager, I initially took classes at a kundalini yoga ashram, then at hatha yoga centers. I began teaching before the age of 20. By my mid-20s, I had experimented with a variety of styles and approaches to yoga in Kansas City, Phoenix, Denver, San Francisco and, yes — Montana, at the Feathered Pipe Ranch near Helena.
My varied background of study convinced me that no one path is right for everybody, but every approach has some validity, value and reward. Additionally, I found that every style has weaknesses, questionable elements and risks. To some degree or another, most styles laid claim to being “right.” Any assertion that a specific hatha yoga path is the best, the be-all-end-all, the one and only, is a red flag. Buyer beware!
Enjoy the gift of yoga this holiday season….the gift that keeps on giving!
